Summer Programs are Heating Up!

Summer is here in Fox Park! June has been super busy with SouthSide Rec programming. Baseball has officially started! SouthSide Rec and Redbird Rookies are once again teaming up to host an in-person baseball league in Fox Park this summer! Games are on Saturdays throughout June and July.

DeSales also started a new summer program centered on Youth Gardening! This program is for youth ages 8 to 11. The program runs from 4:15-5:30 PM on Mondays and Wednesdays from June 15th-July 19th at the DeSales Community Garden. The program is centered around educational and engaging activities that will help your kids learn about growing food/flowers and get their hands dirty! It also incorporates art activities, fun games, and walking field trips. This past week, we made herb butter and took a tour of Rung's vegetable garden! Special thanks to Lowe's for providing many of the materials necessary for this program!

Summer Meals, provided through Operation Food Search, have returned to Fox Park and are offered at the field house. We serve breakfast, lunch, and milk at no cost to all youth in the area. Just come pick up a bag! Food is available Monday-Friday from 4-6 PM and Saturday from 11-2 PM.

Finally, we are also bringing our Fox Park Field House virtual programming to an in-person setting! This goal of this project is to renovate the field house so it can become a physical location for SouthSide Rec and neighborhood meetings and classes. To spread the word, we have crafts and a historical timeline of the neighborhood at the field house during summer meals on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays! This past weekend, we hosted an event in celebration of Pride Month and had a fantastic time!
